
Thunder Fights Cancer With Saturday Fundraiser

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, a two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," has announced a special fundraiser will be held during its home game on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Stockton Arena against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m., presenting silent auction items designed to help raise funds for cancer research through Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre and Fred's Team - Miles of Hope for Cancer Research.
The money raised will be donated to benefit cancer patient Brian Bannan of Toronto, a childhood friend of Thunder head coach Matt Thomas and his entry as a scheduled participant in the New York City Marathon on Oct. 31. Bannan's participation funding in the New York City Marathon will be forwarded to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York through the Fred's Team Foundation - Miles of Hope, designed to research elimination methods of the terminal illness.
The Thunder will be presenting an array of special silent auction items at Stockton Arena during Saturday's game to raise funds the cause, including the following:

"All-Access Pass" to follow a member of the Thunder during a home game day, including access to morning skate session, pregame team meeting in the Thunder locker room, player bench access during pregame warm-ups and pregame team meeting.

Round of golf with head coach Matt Thomas and Thunder player of your choice at Elkhorn Country Club (Stockton, Calif.)

Training camp jersey from the 2009-10 season, autographed by the entire Thunder team

Autographed jersey from the 2004-05 Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies team, featuring Geoff Platt (Columbus Blue Jackets), Luke Curtin (five-time ECHL All-Star) and Brian Fahey (2004 ECHL All-Rookie Team)
The proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
