The Olivet Boys and Girls Club 13 & Under Baseballtown RBI Team will be honored prior to the game on Friday, June 12th for winning the MLB RBI 13U Invitational Tournament in Prince George County, Maryland.
In the tournament held on May 28th to May 31st, the 13U Baseballtown RBI Team opened up play by defeating Pittsburg, 14-2 in the first round and then North Jersey, 11-1, in the second round. Reading faced North Jersey in the semifinals once again and defeated them, 2-1, before going on to the Championship Game where they won, 4-1, over Philadelphia to become RBI 13U Invitational Tournament Champions.
As part of the experience, the Olivet Boys and Girls Club Baseballtown RBI Team spent the weekend in Maryland with an all-expenses paid trip from Major League Baseball.
The players from the 13U Invitational Tournament Championship Team will also be joined by their families at the June 12th game where they will enjoy box seat tickets and the all-you-can-eat deck buffet.
Reading's RBI team is composed of the same kids that have played at Gordon Hoodak Stadium at Lauer's Park. For some of the kids, playing RBI League baseball was their first experience playing the sport. Now, those kids battled teams from cities much larger than Reading to finish first in the tournament.
In addition to winning the championship, three players from the Baseballtown RBI Team were selected to try out for the USA Junior Olympic baseball team in North Carolina this August. Angel Velez Jr., Max Hitman, and Nomar Torres will represent Baseballtown at the tryouts and do their best to make the elite squad.
A chartered member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Olivet Boys & Girls Club serves thousands of youth at eight club locations in Reading, a club location in Pottstown, and at Olivet Blue Mountain Camp in Hamburg. The club was founded in 1898. The Olivet Boys & Girls Club provides after school and summer services to youth between the ages of 6 to 18. The program ensures that club youth achieve important outcomes in priority areas of academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles.
