Published on June 11, 2015 under Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Following a 1:50 weather-related, pre-game delay, Akron starter Will Roberts dominated New Hampshire with a complete-game, one-hit shutout, getting all the offense he would need on a two-run home run by Anthony Gallas in the first inning on Thursday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Anthony Gallas drove a two-run home run out to left field in the bottom of the first inning, giving Roberts an early 2-0 lead that he would make hold up the remainder of the game.
Mound Presence
Roberts (5-2) threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout, allowing just one walk and striking out seven. He faced 28 hitters, just one more than the nine-inning minimum. He threw 100 pitches, 65 strikes.
Duck Tales
Gallas' first-inning home run marked his third consecutive game with a homer. SS Erik Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Notes
Gallas had first three-hit game of the season. Over the last four games, he's hitting .571 (8-for-14) with 3 HR, 7 RBI and three multi-hit games, raising his season average from .236 to .263. The three-game home run streak marks the first time in his career he has homered in three consecutive games.
The shutout for Roberts was the first in his Minor League career and it was his second career complete game, the other coming 6/12/12 at Lynchburg while with Single-A Carolina. It was Akron's first complete game since Joe Colon threw one on 5/26/14 at Reading. For Roberts, it was his 24th win with Akron, tied with Paolo Espino for second on the franchise's all-time list, one behind Matt Packer for the all-time lead (25).
Time of game was: 2:00 (1:50 pre-game delay)...Attendance: 3,296.
