South Carolina Stingrays News Release

The Week That Was: The Stingrays played just two games last week, finishing undefeated with a 2-0-0 record.

First up, the team traveled to Charlotte to face the Checkers. In a tough battle that left the two teams tied at the end of regulation, and at the end of overtime, the Rays had to rely on the shootout to secure their victory. Goalie Josh Johnson stopped four out of the five shots from Charlotte and the Stingrays had goals from Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Stephen Werner to overcome what was an 0-2 game in the second period and turn it around into a 3-2 victory. Werner and newcomer Andrew Gordon had goals in regulation.

The Stingrays then returned to home ice for just the third game this season to face the Mississippi Sea Wolves. In a high-scoring game that saw six goals in the second period, four by the Stingrays and two by the Sea Wolves, the final score was a 7-3 win for the Rays. Gordon had two goals and added three assists on the night.

ECHL League Leaders:

The Rays hold four of the top 20 spots for league leaders in points. Paul McIlveen is tied for first with five other players, all with 15 points. Travis Morin, currently in Hershey, holds the number nine spot with 13 points and Cail MacLean and Pierre-Luc O'Brien are tied for 15th with their 12 points.

Grant McNeill leads the league in minor penalties with 20 in just 11 games.

Despite still being out of the line-up with a broken tibia, Nate Kiser leads the league with his 1.000 shooting percentage from his goal on opening night.

Andrew Gordon is close behind Kiser with his .600 shooting percentage with three goals off five shots. He ranks 3rd in the league and 2nd for rookies.

Among rookies, the Stingrays have four of the top-20 point scorers with McIlveen leading the way. Morin is currently in 3rd, with Pierre-Luc O'Brien in 5th, and Patrick McNeill in 10th place with his ten points before being called up to Hershey.

McIlveen and O'Brien also lead the rookies in assists, each with eleven.

P. McNeill is third among defenseman for points (10), and first in power play goals (3).

The Stingrays are 3rd in the South Division, and 4th in the American conference, just two points behind the Gwinnett Gladiators and Texas Wildcatters.

The Stingrays are 10th in the power play, converting 20.0% of the time, and 14th in the penalty kill, successful 83.0% of the time.
