Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release


PENSACOLA, FL - The Ice Pilots head out on the road for the next two weeks as they will play consecutive games away from Pensacola for the first time this season. The Pilots will visit the rival Mississippi Sea Wolves for two games this Friday and Saturday then travel to Southwest Florida to battle the Everblades the following week. The Ice Pilots were defeated in both games last week against Columbia and Texas. Rookie forward Mathieu Roy continues to lead the team in scoring with 7 points (4G-3A). Pensacola acquired goaltender John Daigneau from Idaho last week and hopes to have Mike Brodeur back in net for the games at Mississippi this weekend.

This week's Games

Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 at Mississippi (Both games at 7:05 p.m.)

The Ice Pilots invade Biloxi to take on the Sea Wolves this weekend. This will be the second visit to the Coast Coliseum for the Pilots this season. The last meeting saw the Ice Pilots earn a point in a 4-3 shootout loss on October 28. The two teams will meet a total of 12 times this year. Since that meeting, the Sea Wolves has lost seven consecutive games. Forward Lance Monych leads the Sea Wolves with 8 points (6G-2A). Goaltender Morgan Cey has played in 10 of Mississippi's 11 games.

Last week's Games

Tuesday vs. Columbia (6-0 Loss)

Peter Tsimikalis scored twice and rookie Jeff Jakaitis recorded 23 saves for his first professional win as the Columbia Inferno defeated the Ice Pilots 6-0 at the Pensacola Civic Center. Jeff Miles opened the scoring late in the first period followed by Tsimikalis' two goals. Mac Faulkner, Daniel Sparre and Owen Fussey added goals for Columbia.

Friday vs. Texas (4-3 Loss)

New Ice Pilots Mike Sgroi scored a goal in his first game and goaltender John Daigneau made 41 saves but it wasn't enough as Texas scored three second period goals and held on for a 4-3 at the Pensacola Civic Center. The Ice Pilots came out strong in the first period and took a 2-1 advantage on goals by Dan Sullivan on the power play and A.J. MacLean. McNabb scored for Texas in the first period. The second period saw Texas take control as they out shot the Pilots 18-5 and Marco Rosa, Mark Fulton and Danick Bouchard scored to put Texas ahead 4-2. Sgroi tallied a goal at 11:59 of the third to cut the lead to one, but Texas held on for the win behind 26 saves from Peter Aubry.

Thursday - Practice at 1 p.m. at Mississippi Coast Coliseum

Friday - Pre-Game Skate at 11:15 a.m.

GAME at Mississippi, 7:05 p.m. at Mississippi Coast Coliseum

Saturday - Pre-Game Skate at 11:15 a.m.

GAME at Mississippi, 7:05 p.m. at Mississippi Coast Coliseum

Sunday - Day Off

(Practices are at the Pensacola Civic Center and are open to the public).

Roster Additions

The Ice Pilots acquired Goaltender John Daigneau from the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for future considerations on November 7.

Forward Mike Sgroi was signed to a contract on November 9.

Ice Pilots in the Community

Friday, Nov. 16 - Jump Rope for Heart - The Ice Pilots will be at McArthur Elementary School in Pensacola from 10:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
