Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Patrick Mazeika's eighth inning RBI single helped propel the Rumble Ponies to a 2-1 series-ending victory against the Yard Goats Thursday at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton nabs back-to-back wins for the first time in nearly a month to earn the series split two games to two. Both starting pitchers lasted seven innings in the low-scoring affair.
With both teams utilizing their bullpen in a 1-1 game, Binghamton pushed the winning run across with two hits in the eighth inning. Brian Moran started the inning for Hartford, taking over for starter Rico Garcia. After retiring Patrick Biondi, Moran allowed a double down the right field line by Andres Gimenez. Joey Terdoslavich followed the two-bagger with a strikeout, leaving it to Will Toffey to extend the inning. Binghamton's third basemen drew a walk and passed the baton to Mazeika. After falling behind 0-2, Mazeika hit a soft line drive into shallow right field, plating Gimenez from second to give the Rumble Ponies their first lead of the night.
Ryder Ryan (2-1) hurled a perfect ninth inning to preserve the Ponies lead, capping a stretch of 14 straight Yard Goats retired by Rumble Ponies pitching.
Moran (0-1), meanwhile, gave up his first Eastern League run of the season in the loss. He allowed two hits and the winning run in the eighth inning.
Mickey Jannis tossed seven innings for the third time in his last five starts. His lone blemish came in the third inning on Chris Rabago's solo blast, the Yard Goats lone tally. The knuckleballer whiffed six and walked one.
Rico Garcia kept pace with Jannis, also firing seven innings. The only run allowed by the Double-A rookie came on back-to-back two-out doubles by Joey Terdoslavich and Will Toffey in the sixth inning. In his first time facing Binghamton, Garcia struck out five and issued one free pass.
Binghamton (51-59) continues its homestand by welcoming in the Harrisburg Senators on Friday. RHP Franklyn Kilmoe makes his NYSEG Stadium debut against RHP Cesar Vargas with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES:Mickey Jannis' 64th career Binghamton start (second all time)...Rumble Ponies first back-to-back wins since July 3 & 4...Binghamton's bullpen did not allow a run in the four-game series...Yard Goats reliever Brian Moran had not allowed a run in six Eastern League appearances
