Komets Rally in Overtime to Beat Fuel 5-4
February 10, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
FORT WAYNE - After succumbing to a three-goal, late third period Komets rally last Saturday, the Indy Fuel (14-29-2-2) dropped a Friday night overtime contest to the Fort Wayne Komets (27-14-4-0). The Fuel snapped a four-game pointless streak in the loss but failed to come away with the extra point in their fifth meeting with the Komets this season.
Indy got out to an early three-goal lead after consecutive goals from Josh Shalla, Alex Widmean and Tyler Barnes by the 4:56 mark in the first period. In five games against the Komets, Shalla has tallied seven goals and three assists. Fort Wayne starting goaltender, Pat Nagle, was replaced with backup Garrett Bartus after the Barnes goal. The fourth most efficient power play team in the ECHL, the Komets closed out the first period with a power play goal.
After a Komets score in the second period and a Bryn Chyzyk goal after 1:32 in the third period, Indy held onto a 4-2 lead. However, the Komets netted the next two goals, the latter coming on Fort Wayne's 10th power play opportunity of the evening. In overtime, Colin Mulvey scored the game-winner for Fort Wayne. The Komets outshot Indy 59-26, with Fuel goaltender Jake Hildebrand stopping 54.
Indy is 2-7-1-0 in their past 10 games while Fort Wayne is 7-3-0-0. The next four meetings between the two clubs will take place at Indiana Famers Coliseum, the next being Friday, Feb. 24. Indy plays away against Kalamazoo Saturday evening before welcoming the Brampton Beast Sunday afternoon. Both games will be broadcast live on CBS Sports 1430 and ECHL.TV. The team's Twitter handle, @IndyFuel, will also provide updates on the game.
Next Home Game: Sunday, February 12 vs. Brampton Beast - 3:05 p.m. Single-game tickets are now available for the third season of Fuel hockey in Indianapolis at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum box office or at all Ticketmaster locations.
