Lerg Becomes 12th Thunder Player to Debut in the NHL

Last night former Thunder forward Bryan Lerg, who played 7 games for the Thunder in 2008-09, made his NHL debut for the San Jose Sharks against his former organization, the Edmonton Oilers. After San Jose tied the game in the third, Lerg would pick a timely spot late in the third to chip in his first NHL goal in his first NHL game as he received a pass across the slot from Logan Couture and stuffed the puck past former Bakersfield Condor goalie Laurent Brossoit, who was also making his NHL debut, for what would eventually stand as the game winner.

Lerg now joins an elite group of 11 other players to make their debut in the NHL following time spent with the Stockton Thunder. In total, the Thunder have had 25 players who have played in the NHL and played for the ECHL side in the 10-year history of the team. Lerg is the third former player this season to make his NHL debut as defenseman Brandon Davidson made his debut for Edmonton in December followed by goalie Tyler Bunz who made his debut with the Oilers earlier this month.

Shattock is on Fire

Tyler Shattock has been one of the best players in the ECHL over the last two months.

Shattock has scored 14 goals and added 19 assists in 26 games thus far since February began. Of the 26 games, Shattock has points in 21 of them, missing out on just 5 games.

His 62 points this season has obliterated his previous pro high of 20 points that he picked up while playing for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL last season. After his five-game point streak ended on Wednesday, March 25, Shattock has picked up right where he left off and finds himself on another five-game point streak (3-6-9), tying his season long that the forward has accomplished now three times.

Last Time vs. Bakersfield

It was one of the best starts the Thunder have had all season long as they controlled play in the early goings. Midway through the first Sebastien Sylvestre took a high sticking minor that the Thunder would capitalize on thanks to Mario Larocque, who has scored all three of his goals this season against the Condors.

The Thunder would add to their lead in the final minute of the period when Carter Rigby kicked a puck out to Kyle Brodie who faked the shot to draw Maxime Lagace out of the net, deke around him, and stuff his first pro goal in the net.

The team increased their advantage in the second with goals Tyler Shattock and Alex Mallet, however Lucas Gore would leave with a lower body injury and not return. Gore finished the game making all 17-saves he needed to.

While the Condors would beat Kent Simpson in the third, that would be the only one they'd get. The Thunder added the empty net, shorthanded goal to seal the 5-1 win over Bakersfield. Simpson stopped 16 of 17 shots after coming in cold including the 13-shot third period that saw the Condors generate a few quality chances foiled by the goalie.

Tonight

The Stockton Thunder conclude their road schedule tonight when they take on the Bakersfield Condors at Rabobank Arena. The Thunder have clinched a winning record against the Condors this season as with two games left the Thunder hold a 8-5-0-0 record.

The Thunder have now won four of their six road games this season against the Condors.

Who to Watch

They've been great in their first handful of games so let's continue watching them!

Kyle Brodie and Carter Rigby have put up points in their first two pro games with Rigby assisting on an opening goal in Ontario last Saturday and assisting on Brodie's eventual game winning goal on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Brodie put in that first period dagger on Tuesday, following his UW-Stevens Point teammate Garrett Ladd, with his first pro goal. It's time for Rigby to follow suit and put in his first goal tonight against Bakersfield!

All-Time Greatest

Garet Hunt has done it, the longtime Thunder forward playing in his seventh season became the team's all-time leading scorer after a goal last night against Troy Redmann.

With the goal Garet breaks a two-way tie at the top with former Thunder forward Mike Lalonde and sets a new team record of 157 points.

Garet does have one more record to try and chase down as Lalonde still holds the all-time Thunder goals record of 72. Hunt's season goal total is now up to 12 meaning he is just 9 goals away from tying Lalonde's mark.

Hunt is now the franchise leader in games played (438), points (157), penalty minutes (1638) and ranks third all-time in assists (94) behind Ryan Constant (110) and Nathan Martz (97).

Interesting Fact

Garet Hunt, who is eligible to return tonight, is just a minor penalty away from claiming the 9th spot on the ECHL's All-Time penalty minute list from Kam White (1,654).
