Missiaen Backstops Warriors' Win over Cyclones

December 11, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC - Jason Missiaen made a season-high 40 saves on Thursday as the Greenville Road Warriors (14-9-0-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, edged the Cincinnati Cyclones (8-8-0-4) at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, 3-2. The Warriors have now won four straight games overall and five straight at home.

Michael St. Croix netted the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes to play, while Spencer Humphries (2a) earned his second multi-point game this season.

With the victory, Greenville improved to 7-0-1 on SANDLAPPER Securities Rink this season and continues to lead the league with a .875 win percentage at home. The Road Warriors also picked up their first five-game winning streak on home ice since March 20, 2014 - April 5, 2014.

Greenville used its first power play of the game to grab a 1-0 lead at 13:00 of the first period. With Shayne Taker in the box for holding, Spencer Humphries found Ryan Hegarty at the top of the left circle, who ripped a slap shot through traffic and past goaltender Sam Brittain for his fourth goal this season. Hegarty is now on a five-game point streak at home, dating back to Nov. 13th (3g, 3a).

The Road Warriors extended their lead at 5:52 of the second period when Humphries sent a crisp pass to Paul Rodrigues behind the Cyclones defense for a breakaway chance. From the blue line, Rodrigues skated in and went forehand to beat Brittain, blocker side, for the 2-0 advantage.

Cincinnati answered for the first time during a 5-on-3 attack in the final minute of play in the second period. Following unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to both Emerson Clark and the Greenville bench, Josh Shalla fired a quick shot from the top of the slot past Missiaen for his team-leading 12th goal of the year. The tally came on Cincinnati's 34th shot of the contest at the 19:01 mark.

The Cyclones evened the game at 4:46 of the third period when Kevin Sullivan sent a backhand pass across the top of the crease that was knocked in from the back door by Geoff Irwin.

St. Croix completed the scoring and netted his first game-winning goal this season at 12:03 of the third period. From the left side, Josh Nicholls found Kyle Jean crashing in from the right circle, who collected the puck and sent a backhand pass to St. Croix at the back door. With Brittain sliding to his right, St. Croix pushed a one-timer into the back of the net for his third goal overall this season.

Cincinnati pulled Brittain in the final minutes of regulation, but was unable to capitalize on the odd-man attack.

Greenville finished the game 1-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Brittain made 20 saves and suffered the loss.

The Cyclones outshot the Road Warriors 42-23.
