Rockford Aviators News Release

O'FALLON, Mo. - The Rockford Aviators (6-22), presented by Pearson, got another outstanding starting pitching performance Wednesday night, but couldn't hold a 2-0 ninth inning lead and lost to River City (11-17) 3-2 in 10 innings.

Ted Obregon started the scoring by leading off the game with his first home run of the season. Rockford made the lead 2-0 in the seventh when Jeff Kramer picked up his first professional RBI to bring home Ray Hernandez.

Rockford starter Trevor Harden left after the eighth inning with that 2-0 lead. Harden was spectacular, going eight innings without allowing a run on eight scattered hits, while striking out four and walking only one.

Nick Cicio came on in the ninth to try to pick up his fourth save of the season, but the Rascals had other ideas. Danny Canela singled to lead off the inning and later scored to make it 2-1 when Johnny Morales hit into a 4-6-3 double-play. Eric Williams then singled and scored from first on a Curran Redal double. Redal was thrown out at third to end the inning while trying to turn the double into a triple.

Rockford went 1-2-3 in the top of the tenth and River City didn't waste time going to work in the bottom half.

Evan Crawford hit a leadoff double to right-center and advanced to third on a Phil Wunderlich grounder to second base. Jake Atwell was walked and then Rockford intentially walked Will Block to load the bases with one out. Justin Sarratt, a pitcher who came in to run for Canela in the ninth, then put down a bunt and Rockford's throw to the plate was late as River City walked-off 3-2.

Rascals' releiver Kyle Owings got the win, improving his record to 3-0 on the season. Cicio took the blown save and the loss and falls to 1-2 on the year.

The series finale is tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Fans can hear the game on 100.5 NTA-FM or online at rockfordaviators.com.
