Pair of Gladiators Name to All-ECHL 1st Team

Gladiators forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel along with defenseman Sacha Guimond have been named to the 2013 All-ECHL First Team.

Also named to the All-ECHL First Team this year along with Pierro-Zabotel and Guimond include goaltender and former Gladiator Ryan Zapolski of South Carolina, defenseman Matt Case of Idaho, forward Michael Forney of Colorado and forward Mathieu Roy of Florida.

Pierro-Zabotel currently shares second in the ECHL in points with 74 and ranks second in the league with 53 assists. He was named a starter for the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game and notched two assists in the ECHL All-Stars 7-3 win over Colorado. In addition, he has added two points (1g-1a) in five games with Charlotte of the American Hockey League this season.

Guimond, who was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team Wednesday, leads all ECHL defensemen with 47 points, is tied for first with 35 assists and is fourth with 12 goals. He is first among blue-liners with nine power-play goals and 29 power-play points while his 20 power-play assists are tied for first among defensemen. Guimond has also appeared in six American Hockey League games with Worcester and Norfolk this season.

This is the second consecutive season the Gladiators have had a player named to the All-ECHL First Team as netminder Jeff Jakaitis represented the Gladiators last year. It is also the third time in team history that the Gladiators have had two players named to the All-ECHL first team in one season.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
