Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, and head coach Matt Thomas announced the team has agreed to terms with free agent rookie center Ryan Green. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Green is expected to officially join the Thunder in Colorado this evening, pending league approval on his contract. The Thunder gets underway with a three game series at Budweiser Events Center against the Colorado Eagles tonight at 6:05 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com).

"As we continue to evaluate open roster spots due to the lockout's end, we determined the need for a forward who has the potential to contribute offensively," said Thomas. "Ryan fits that need as a big and strong power forward with a tremendous shot. He was a victim of a numbers game at the end of training camp and we're expecting him to make a seamless transition back into our dressing room."

Green, 22, returns to the Thunder after skating in training camp with the club. He made his pro debut in the Central Hockey League this season with the Tulsa Oilers and skated in three games.

The 6-foot-3 and 210 pound forward was originally signed by the Thunder as a free agent on Jul. 26, 2012 and suited up in one season at the University of Windsor (CIS). He skated in 27 games last season, tying for second on the Lancers with 25 points (12g-13a). His 12 goals ranked second on the team.

A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12. Season Tickets, Group Tickets and Mini-Plans for 2012-13 are on sale now.
