Fortier, Lawrence Lead Solar Bears to 4-2 Victory

Orlando, FL - RW Chris Lawrence collected three assists in his Solar Bears debut as Orlando took down the Kalamazoo Wings by a 4-2 score at the Amway Center on Saturday night.

The Solar Bears struck first to gain a 1-0 lead 12:06 into the period. While on the power play, F Olivier Fortier fired a pass through the slot that deflected off a skate blade and ended up in the back of the net. Kalamazoo was able to even the score with a power play goal of their own. With exactly two minutes remaining in the frame, a slap shot from D Sam Ftorek rang off the post and deflected into the back of the net. The two sides carried the 1-1 score into the first intermission.

The 1-1 tie was broken 8:08 into the second period. F Rob Mignardi gathered a puck in the slot and after a toe save from Wings G Joel Martin, C Mathew Sisca pounced on the rebound to put Orlando up 2-1. Mignardi stretched the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal three minutes later, as he picked up a loose puck off the end wall and tapped it past Martin for his fifth goal of the season and fourth in the last three games. Fortier struck for his second goal of the night on a beautiful pass from Lawrence with 3:52 remaining in the period, driving a one timer into the top corner as Orlando opened up a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Kalamazoo scored the lone goal in the third period when F John Armstrong scored at 2:36 with an assist by D John Negrin. The period came to a close with the Solar Bears collecting a 4-2 win over Kalamazoo. The Solar Bears out shot Kalamazoo 42-27.
