Charleston took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a three run home run from Casey Stevenson. In the Power sixth, Jose Osuna singled and scored on a triple by Taylor Lewis, who then crossed on a sac fly to tie the game. In the bottom of the ninth, West Virginia loaded the bases for Osuna, who singled to right to win the game. Orlando Castro picked up the win and John Brebbia took the loss.
1.5 BEHIND: Hagerstown edged Kannapolis on Wednesday and maintained a game and a half lead of West Virginia in the SAL Northern Division. The Crawdads enter play tonight two and a half games behind the Suns and a game back of the Power. Each team has 11 games remaining this season.
GRAB THE STEAMPOT: West Virginia opens its' third to last series of the regular season tonight against Hickory. The Power are 45-36 all-time against the Crawdads dating back to 2005. The Power have a 27-13 mark against the Crawdads at Appalachian Power Park.
STREAKS ROLL ON: Jose Osuna's hitting streak has reached 14 straight with an eighth innings single last night. The Power first baseman is batting .291 over his last 13 games with two home runs and seven runs batted in. In 59 second half games, the team has scored 328 runs (5.6 runs per game) and has allowed 253 (4.3 runs allowed per game).
AIN'T THAT GRAND: Tuesday night's eighth inning grand slam by Eric Avila was the first by a West Virginia hitter this season. The Power were one of three clubs (Rome and Savannah) that had not hit a grand slam this season. In fact, West Virginia went over two years without a grand slam. Avila is the first West Virginia player to be honored by the league this season. Avila is the second player in Power franchise history to hit one out in four consecutive games, matching Caleb Gindl's feat from August of the 2008 season.
