
Crawdads Unplug Power with 4-3 Win

CHARLESTON, WV - The Hickory Crawdads topped the West Virginia Power, 4-3, before 2,545 fans at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, WV on Thursday night.
The Crawdads (33-27, 69-60) cracked the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third inning against RHP Zack Von Rosenberg (L, 4-6). With two on and two down, RF Trever Adams placed an RBI single to center field, bringing in LF Hirotoshi Onaka from third for the 1-0 lead.
Hickory opened the gap wider with three more runs in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back singles by C Kellin Deglan and 1B Jorge Alfaro started the stanza. 3B Nick Urbanus followed with a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error on the play, loading the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, Onaka worked an RBI walk to force in Deglan and make it 2-0. An RBI groundout by SS Luis Sardinas and an RBI base hit by 2B Rougned Odor capped the three-run frame and stretched the lead to 4-0.
Crawdads RHP Jerad Eickhoff (W, 12-7) kept the Power hitless through his first 3.1 frames, and finished with five scoreless innings in the start. He allowed just two hits, while striking out three batters.
West Virginia (33-27, 56-74) came racing back into the ballgame against RHP Jose Monegro in the bottom of the sixth inning. C Elias Diaz opened the frame with a double to left field and moved to third on a bunt single by SS Alen Hanson. CF Taylor Lewis brought home Diaz with an RBI fielder's choice, though Hanson was retired at second base on the play. 3B Eric Avila then connected for a two-run home run over the left-center field wall, bringing the Power within just one run, 4-3.
Hickory RHP Arlett Mavare (S, 5) took over to start the top of the seventh and quieted the Power bats right away. Mavare struck out seven of the 10 batters that he faced, allowing just one hit through three scoreless innings to close the 4-3 win for the Crawdads.
