Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, SC - Despite being the South Atlantic League's top hitting team, the Charleston RiverDogs (39-30, 0-2) have struggled at Fluor Field this season. The Drive (36-36, 2-0) continued their stranglehold over their cross-state rival in 2012, picking up their seventh victory in 10 meetings against the New York Yankees affiliate, following a 7-3 win Friday night.

The Drive scored early in often, posting starting pitcher Jason Garcia (2-4) with a 4-0 advantage through four innings in the second game of the circuit's second half. Greenville wasted little time in getting to Wilton Rodriguez (1-3), as Jose Garcia was hit by a pitch to leadoff the bottom of the first.

The speedy shortstop stole second, before going to third on Keury De la Cruz's single, and crossed home for the game's first run as Garin Cecchini grounded out. The leadoff batter once again reached base for the Drive in the bottom of the second, as Henry Ramos doubled, went to third on Cody Koback's single, and scored on a wild pitch.

David Renfroe, who was later ejected in the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes, walked in the bottom of the third and came around to score on Drew Turocy's double. A trio of singles, including an RBI base hit by De la Cruz led to a run in the fourth straight inning for Greenville.

Picking up his second win of the season, Jason Garcia needed just 76 pitches to get through five strong innings on the bump. The right-hander scattered six hits and a walk during his outing, while only allowing a run before turning the game over to reliever Yeiper Castillo.

After the RiverDogs scored their first run in the top of the fifth, the Drive answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Replacing Renfroe, Boss Moanaroa delivered a two-out, two-run double to knock-in Bryan Johns and Garin Cecchini.

A native of Australia, added sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eight - scoring Cecchini, who had led off the inning with a triple - for Greenville's final run.

Another right-hander, Castillo picked up his second save of the year, after striking out seven over the contest's final four innings. Castillo allowed two runs on six hits and two walks.

The Drive look to extend their win streak to four games on Saturday, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM from Fluor Field. Left-hander Henry Owens (7-2, 5.20 ERA) will head to the mound for Greenville, while Charleston counters with right-hander Scottie Alle (2-5, 5.48 ERA).

Tomorrow night is Mill League Night, in which the Drive will celebrate the textile and mill league baseball teams and players from across the Upstate. The Drive will wear throwback uniforms, representing these teams, and former players will take the field prior to the start of the game. Former textile league standout, Joe Anders, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. For more information regarding tickets, call (864) 240-4500 or log onto GreenvilleDrive.com.
