Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, Iowa - Coming off of a tough loss on Sunday afternoon to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Clinton LumberKings wasted no time building a lead their rival to the West couldn't top. Clinton pounded out 14 hits en route to a 9-3 win on Monday night at Ashford University Field.

Back-to-back triples by Jabari Blash and Ramon Morla started the scoring for the LumberKings in the second inning. Steve Baron followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 after two. With Jeremy Dobbs shutting down the Kernels offense early, the offense went back to work in the third. Four straight walks by Cedar Rapids starter Austin Wood loaded the bases for Ramon Morla who ripped an 0-2 pitch down the right field for a two-run double. Morla came into the game with six multi-hit efforts in his last seven games finished 3 for 4 with a run and 3 RBIs. Morla is 17 for his last 32 and has raised his average to .263. Baron followed with a two-out RBI single to make it 5-0 after three.

Cedar Rapids got on the board in the fourth with a solo blast from Ryan Jones, his fourth of the year and second in as many days. Clinton came right back with two of their own in the bottom half on a two-run double to left by Dan Paolini. It was 8-1 Clinton before the Kernels picked up a pair in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Kaleb Cowart and a run-scoring base hit by Frazier Hall. Clinton scored another run in the ninth when All-Star Jamal Austin tripled and Dillon Hazlett singled to cap the scoring at 9-3.

Austin, who was named a Midwest League All-Star earlier in the day, will be joined by teammates Jordan Shipers and Tim Griffin in the summer classic on Tuesday, June 19 at Kane County.

The LumberKings enjoy an off day on Tuesday before taking their game on the road to front-running Wisconsin for a three-game set in Appleton. Shipers (2-1, 3.00) will get the start against right-hander David Goforth (4-4, 5.74) in game one. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 on Wednesday night.
