Indians Top Prospect LHP Drew Pomeranz Promoted from Kinston, Will Start for Aeros Tonight

AKRON, OH - The Akron Aeros today announced that left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz was promoted to Double-A Akron from High Single-A Kinston and will start tonight at Harrisburg.

The Cleveland Indians first round selection and fifth overall pick of the 2010 First Year Player Draft went 3-2 at Kinston compiling a league-best 1.87 ERA.

Pomeranz also had the Lowest Batting Average Against (.202) while with Kinston, was fourth in the Carolina League strikeouts (95) and was second in Highest SO/9 IP Ratio (11.10).

The 6'5, 230 lb. southpaw did not pitch competitively at the professional level last season after signing at the deadline on August 16, 2010.

Pomeranz is currently ranked no. 14 on Baseball America's 2011 Midseason Top 50 Prospects List. Prior to the 2011 season, he was named the fourth best prospect in the Indians Organization, according to Baseball America.

The Collierville, Tennessee native is also considered, by Baseball America, to have the best curveball in the Tribe system.

Pomeranz could potentially make his Canal Park debut Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. when the Aeros host the Altoona Curve.
