June 9, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - The last weekend of June will be a very exciting one for the Beloit Snappers as they welcome members of their parent club, the Minnesota Twins to Pohlman Field. Starting June 24, the Snappers will feature Twins themed jerseys, will have Twins mascot TC the Bear, Twins legend Tony Oliva and even the Target Field organist on hand to entertain fans. There will be a special gate open time of 5:45 on the 24th of June to accommodate the special guests.

Tony Oliva is very well known amongst Twins fans as his number 6 has been retired throughout the organization. Oliva played for 15 seasons, all with the Twins, and amassed, 1,917 hits, hit 329 doubles and knocked in over 940 RBI all while carrying a career batting average of .304. Oliva will be on hand to sign autographs Friday from approximately 5:45 pm until approximately 6:45 pm as well as throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

The eight-time all-star won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1964 when he hit .323 and set career highs in hits (217), doubles (43) and home runs (32). He also finished 2nd in the American League MVP race in 1965, when he lost to teammate Zoilo Versalles and again in 1970 when he lost to Baltimore Oriole, Boog Powell.

TC Bear will be assisting Snappy D. Turtle Friday night to entertain fans before he heads to Milwaukee to support the parent club Twins against the Brewers.

All fans will also be able to enter a drawing for 4 tickets to the Twins game against the Detroit Tigers at beautiful Target Field on July 23rd, 2011. The winner will also receive a one night stay at the Graves 601 hotel in Downtown Minneapolis.

On Saturday morning the Twins and Snappers invite fans to join them for a breakfast event benefiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rock, Walworth and Jefferson Counties at The Rock Bar and Grill located at 101 Maple in Beloit, WI. Tony Oliva, TC Bear, Snappy and members of the Beloit Snappers team and front office will be on hand to interact with fans. Mr. Oliva will NOT be holding an autograph session on Saturday morning as he will be doing that Friday night.

The doors will open at 8:00am and breakfast will be served upon entry to the event. Following breakfast there will be a few words from our honored guest Tony Oliva as well as a few from the Snappers representatives. The event will wrap up by 10:00am. Attendees will have two menu options, scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and a muffin or pancakes, bacon and a muffin. The cost for the event is $7.00 and all proceeds will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Tickets can be purchased at the Snappers administrative offices, the Rock Bar and Grill or the Big Brothers Big Sisters offices. For more information or any questions please contact Assistant General Manager Matthew Bosen at 608-362-2272 or mbosen@snappersbaseball.com [mailto:mbosen@snappersbaseball.com]

The Snappers will also be donning special Minnesota Twins themed jerseys during the three games against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. There will be a silent auction held all three days and the winners will be announced on Sunday game immediately following the conclusion of the game. The jerseys are an imitation of the current Twins home jersey, a white jersey with blue pinstripes and "Snappers" in red across the front replacing "Twins".

Fans are able to bid on the jerseys at all three games but there will only be one (1) winner for each jersey and the winners will be able to pick up the jersey from the players on the field after the game (not a guarantee of meeting the player as some players will not be on the field due to injury or other unforeseen issues).

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and a Class-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. For ticket information, contact the Snappers office at 608-362-2272 or visit the website at www.snappersbaseball.com.
