Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps' grounds crew, led by head groundskeeper Mitch McClary, was named the Midwest League Grounds Crew of the Year.
It is the first time in franchise history Fort Wayne has won the award.
"Mitch and his crew have done a first-class job ever since Parkview Field opened,"Â TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. "We've been blown away by what they've done, both grooming the field and painting designs in the grass. We're proud to have them on our staff.-Â
McClary joined the TinCaps in 2008 and has managed the upkeep of Parkview Field since before Parkview Field opened. Prior to his time in Fort Wayne, he was the head groundskeeper with the independent Gary South Shore RailCats and served as an assistant groundskeeper for the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He recently accepted a position as the head groundskeeper for the Triple-A Omaha Royals at Sarpy County Ballpark, slated to open in April 2011.
The Midwest League Sports Turf Manager / Grounds Crew of the Year Award is voted upon by the league's managers and umpires. Voting is based on the quality of playing surface, infield/outfield turf, preparation of field, quality of pitching mounds, home plate, bullpens and warning track.
The TinCaps finish the regular-season schedule with a three-game weekend series at Parkview Field against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers). Sunday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. and features post-game fireworks. Monday is Fan Appreciation Day with a matinee game beginning at 3:05 p.m.
Tickets are available for the remaining regular-season games and a home playoff game which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 8 against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers). To order, visit TinCaps.com, call the Parkview Field ticket office at (260) 482-6400 or order in person at the ticket office located at the corner of Ewing and Brackenridge Streets during normal business hours.
