Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Midwest League has announced that River Bandits first baseman Matt Adams has been named a postseason all-star.
Adams' season was cut short when he endured a season-ending injury to his elbow. Despite his abbreviated season of just 115 games, Adams still leads the league in home runs (tied with 22), RBI (88), slugging percentage (.541), extra-base hits (63) and total bases (251). His .310 batting average is good for sixth in the league and he has the second-best home run per at bat ratio with a round-tripper every 21.09 at bats.
Adams represented the River Bandits for the Western Division in the mid-season all-star game in Fort Wayne. He was one of three River Bandits selected to play in the showcase. Adams was the only River Bandit selected to the postseason all-star squad.
Adams, a Philipsburg, Pennsylvania native, was drafted by the Cardinals in the 23rd round in 2009 out of Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
The River Bandits continue their three-game set with the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday night at Modern Woodmen Park. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
