West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - For the seventh consecutive season - and the 14th time in the franchise's 17-year history - the West Michigan Whitecaps are heading to the Midwest League playoffs.
With Saturday night's 8-3 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps - combined with a Sunday afternoon loss by Lansing - the Whitecaps capped an improbable late-season turnaround and secured a spot in the post-season.
Game One of the Eastern Division Quarterfinals will take place on Wednesday, September 8, at Fifth Third Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the gates will open at 6:00 p.m. as the Whitecaps take on the Lake County Captains in a best-of-three series.
Tickets for the Whitecaps' opening-round playoff game at Fifth Third Ballpark will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning by logging on to www.whitecapsbaseball.com or visiting the box office at Fifth Third Ballpark. Tickets will be available by phone order at (616) 784-4131 starting on Tuesday. The 'Caps are once again offering the "Altogas Thrifty Playoffs" promotion throughout the post-season, offering fans $1 hot dogs and $2 beer, Pepsi products and pretzels at all home playoff games.
Fans that have rainout tickets or undated tickets from the 2010 regular season can also redeem those for playoff games.
The Whitecaps' incredible run to the post-season has come despite early-season struggles that led to a franchise-worst 26-43 record in the first half and a record-high 76 losses overall. After falling as much as 29 games below .500 in late July, however, the 'Caps have gone on a 26-12 tear since July 28 to shoot up the Eastern Division standings and clinch a seventh consecutive playoff berth.
Despite having been a member of the Midwest League for just 17 seasons, West Michigan ranks second among active league members with five championship titles. The Whitecaps most recently won the league title in 2007 and have not missed the playoffs since 2003.
