MIDLAND, MI - The Great Lakes Loons recorded their 90th win of the season by defeating the Bowling Green Hot Rods 5-2 Sunday at Dow Diamond, in front of 4,596 fans.

Despite sitting four nights in a row to rest a nagging wrist, it didn't take Loons outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez very long to get involved. In his first at-bat as the three-hole hitter, he blasted an 0-1 pitch 400-feet over the left-center field wall for a home run that put the Loons up 2-0.

"I felt great and didn't feel out of rhythm at all," Cavazos-Galvez said after the game. "I actually felt in better rhythm today than the games before my wrist was starting to act up on me. It was a good day."

Cavazos-Galvez helped increase the Loons lead in the third inning as well, hitting a single to left field that put Christian Lara in scoring position. Lara then scored on a J.T. Wise 1-3 groundout. In the fifth inning, Cavazos-Galvez hit a double to start the Loons second two-run inning of the game. He scored on a missed catch by the third baseman Julio Cedeno, while Wise brought in a run with his double to centerfield.

The Loons loaded the bases in the sixth inning for Cavazos-Galvez, who finished a triple shy of the cycle, but he and Blake Smith both struck out swinging to end the inning.

Loons starting pitcher Ryan Christenson limited the Hot Rods to just two hits through the first six frames, and didn't surrender a run until the seventh. With 101 pitches, the left-handed hurler allowed two runs on five hits through 6.2 innings pitched, fanning four Hot Rods along the way. Christenson picked up the win, his third, for his efforts. Relievers Steve Smith and Steve Ames stepped in to combine for 2.1 hitless innings; Ames picked up his 16th save.

Bowling Green starter Yorman Mayora (1-3, 5.93) gave up three runs on six hits over four innings and was charged with the loss.

The Great Lakes Loons are 90-48 in 2010 and have locked up home field advantage throughout the Midwest League postseason, which begins on Wednesday, September 8. The Loons will face the Fort Wayne TinCaps in Round 1.

The Loons play their final game of the regular season on Monday with a special 3:05 p.m. start time. LHP C.J. Riefenhauser (0-0, 0.00) will take the mound for Bowling Green, while Great Lakes' starter is TBD. To commemorate the Loons Regular Season Finale, Brett Mitchell and the Giant Ghost will play a pre- and post-game concert.

The Great Lakes Loons are a fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
