Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The South Atlantic League announced on Tuesday that Drive outfielder Ronald Bermudez has been named the South Atlantic League Offensive Player of the Week for June 28th through July 4th.
With the honor, Bermudez becomes the fourth Drive player - third position player - this season to take home league honors, joining catcher Dan Butler (April 19-25), pitcher Cesar Cabral (April 26-May 2), and first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez (June 7-13).
Playing in all seven games last week, the 22-year-old Venezuelan led the South Atlantic League in batting, hitting .524 (11-for-21), RBI (9), on-base percentage (.607), slugging percentage (1.048), and OPS (1.655).
In addition, the 2010 South Atlantic League All-Star ranked tied for the lead with 11 hits, tied for 2nd in home runs (3), and tied for 5th in extra-base hits (4).
All of Bermudez's round trippers came over a two-day period, belting a pair of homers on July 2nd and another on July 3rd - both Drive victories over the Savannah Sand Gnats.
He was the only Greenville batter to tally a hit in each game last week, including three multi-hit efforts, guiding the Drive to a 5-2 record.
On the season, Bermudez has posted a .292 (80-for-274) average with eight home runs, 41 RBI, and 41 runs scored.
Signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent in 2005, Bermudez ranks first among active players on Drive's roster in runs batted in, runs scored, hits, doubles (20), and total bases (128) - having already set career highs in each of those categories.
The Southern Division-leading Drive are currently on the road in Kannapolis, NC in the midst of a four-game series with the Intimidators.
They return home to Fluor Field on Thursday, July 8th for a five-game series with the Hagerstown Suns.
