Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Lexington, KY - For the first time in over a week, the Augusta GreenJackets won in back-to-back games after a 9-5 win over the Lexington Legends on Tuesday night.

The trio of Ryan Cavan, Nick Liles and Chris Dominguez figured in eight of the nine runs in the Augusta victory. After Evan Crawford singled and stole second in the first, Nick Liles ripped a double to left-center to score Crawford with the game's first run. Liles would score on a Dominguez groundout later in the inning to give Augusta a 2-0 lead in the first.

After Lexington got a run back in the third on a sacrifice fly, the GreenJackets ripped things open with a four-run fifth inning. Augusta batted around and loaded the bases for Cavan, who brought all three runners home on a one-out, bases-clearing triple to put the Jackets up by four. Dominguez followed with an opposite-field double off the wall in right to score Cavan and push the lead to five.

Liles scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to make the Augusta lead 7-1 before the Legends mounted their rally off a tiring Craig Clark in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Jordan Comadena snuck a line drive over the left field fence for his first home run of the year - a solo shot for the Legends. Clark left after allowing back-to-back singles and Wilmin Rodriguez walked the bases full before Jake Gobbert cleared them with a three-run double to cut Augusta's lead to two.

With the tying run at the plate, Craig Whitaker struck out Kody Hinze and Aaron Bray on called third strikes to get the GreenJackets out of the jam in the seventh inning. Whitaker struck out the side in the eighth as he faced just five hitters all night long and fanned them all.

Crawford scored from third following an error on a Liles double in the eighth and the Jackets got the only run not involving Cavan, Liles and/or Dominguez in the ninth. Tommy Joseph drilled a solo home run to left field - the third straight game in which he's homered - to push the Augusta lead back to four runs.

Clark (1-1) scattered ten hits and allowed four runs in his first win this season in a GreenJackets uniform. He didn't walk anyone and struck out three. Tanner Bushue (4-5) took the loss after yielding six runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Augusta sends Jorge Bucardo (8-3, 2.23) to the mound on Wednesday afternoon's series finale as the GreenJackets look to take three of four from the Legends. Lexington will counter with Juan Minaya (2-8, 6.01). First pitch from Lexington will come at 12:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 11:50 a.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.

Note: Wednesday's game (12:05 first pitch, 11:50 airtime) will be broadcast internet-only until 2 p.m. after the conclusion of the Buzz on Biz show when WRDW-AM 1630 will join the broadcast already in progress.
