In a tremendous display of hitting, pitching and fielding, a true all-around performance by the Greenville Drive, they defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators by the score of 10-2 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Tuesday night in game three of a four game series.

In the early stages of the game, it was a close game with Joe Serafin on the mound for the Intimidators (4-9). Serafin (7-5) allowed one run in the first inning on an RBI-single by Chris McGuiness as the Drive (10-3) took a 1-0 lead.

The game stayed 1-0 until the third as the Intimidators got to starter Pete Ruiz for the lone run he would allow. With two on and two out, Mike Richard singled to tie the game up at one. Ruiz (5-6) went five innings and allowed five hits, one run and struck out five on the night.

In a 1-1 game in the fifth, Serafin ran into trouble. He allowed a leadoff hit to Derrik Gibson who was the first of eight baserunners in the inning. The Drive scored one run with one out and four with two outs, including two on a two-run double by Shannon Wilkerson, who had four hits on the night. All told, Serafin allowed four hits, two walks a hit by pitch and a batter to reach on an error in a five run fifth. He was taken from the game after a 6-1 lead and 4.2 innings where four of the runs were earned. Matt Wickswat came on in relief.

The six runs were more than enough for the Drive as the Intimidators only coax one more home in the eighth on a Brady Shoemaker single with two outs. The Intimidators had 10 hits on the night and were 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Jeremiah Bayer pitched three innings and allowed one run and Dennis Neuman got the final three outs in the game.

The Drive worked one run home off Wickswat in the sixth as he pitched 2.1 innings and they scored three runs on seven hits against Zach Piccola in the eighth and ninth. All told, the Drive scored ten runs on 20 hits, went an sour 6-for-25 with runners in scoring position and despite the ten runs, left 16 on base. Dan Butler became the eighth player this season in the SAL to have five hits, one was a home run, in a single game.

The Intimidators have split their last six games to start July after a down June and look to split the four game series with the Drive in a 7:05 series ender on Wednesday. Andre Rienzo will be looking for a bounce-back performance and Kendal Volz goes in search of his sixth win.
