SALISBURY, MD - 1B Mike Ortiz hit his second homer in as many days for the Hickory Crawdads, but the Delmarva Shorebirds had a home run of their own, winning 3-1 before 2,301 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Shorebirds (5-7, 37-45) scored the first run of the ballgame in the first inning against Crawdads starter LHP Robbie Erlin (3-2, 1.64 ERA). RF Brian Conley led the inning off with a single and was bunted over to second by 2B Mike Mooney. 1B Tyler Townsend then lined a single to left to score Conley from second and put Delmarva up, 1-0.

The Shorebirds added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Townsend led off with a single, LF Kieron Pope hit a two-run home run to left, extending the Delmarva lead to 3-0.

Hickory (7-6, 47-36) scored its lone run of the game against Shorebirds starter RHP Luis Noel (4-2, 2.59 ERA) in the fifth. Ortiz led the inning off by smacking his sixth homer of the season, accounting for the 3-1 final score and Delmarva win.

Noel threw an efficient eight innings for Delmarva, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out 10. RHP Josh Dowdy pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

Erlin took the loss for the Crawdads, allowing three runs on six hits while fanning two through 3.2 innings. RHP Johan Yan and RHP Sam Brown followed Erlin with a combined 4.1 scoreless frames of relief. Crawdads Clippings:

On Sunday, July 11, the first 1,000 kids through the gates will receive FREE Webkinz! Come on out early to L.P. Frans for a faith-based service presented by WLON 1050AM beginning at 3:30 p.m. It's also Bark at the Ballpark, with fans encouraged to bring their canine companions with them to the 5 p.m. ballgame.
