Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators made four costly errors resulting in four unearned runs in a 5-3 loss to the Greenville Drive in game three of a four game series. The loss puts the Intimidators back to an even .500 record on the season after 54 games played.
The Intimidators (27-27) got off to a hot start as Kyle Colligan walked and Ian Gac singled with two outs in the first inning before Brady Shoemaker hit a two-run double off the wall in center field giving the Intimidators a 2-0 lead after one.
The Drive (27-28) responded well though as they plated three runs in their very next at-bats in the top of the second inning. Off starter Matt Hopps, the Drive recorded a single before an error on a bunt attempt made it first and third with one down before an RBI-ground ball scored a run and a double and single plated two more. Hopps (1-4) would settle down as he threw three straight scoreless frames but another error aided a run to score in his final inning of work, the sixth, as the Drive took a 4-2 lead. All four runs against Hopps were unearned.
Down 4-2, the Intimidators got a two-out triple from Rafael Vera in the seventh and he was brought home on a Jesus Villegas single to make the game a one-run contest going into the eighth.
The score stayed the same through the eighth and the Drive added a run of insurance in the ninth and won the game by the score of 5-3. The Drive out-hit the Intimidators 11-7 and the Intimidators made four errors on the ballgame.
Drake Britton started the game for the Drive but is being kept on a strict pitch count and he exited with one out in the third inning. Tom Ebert (3-1) pitched the next 4.2 innings and allowed only one run to achieve his third win of the season.
The Intimidators will look to split the series at two games each on Friday at 7:05 pm behind the left arm of Joe Serafin as he aims to get to six wins first amongst Intimidators pitchers. He will be opposed by Yieper Castillo.
