May 24, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Bowie Baysox News Release
The Bowie Baysox announce today that the Orioles Advocates will collect new and used sports equipment at Prince George's Stadium Sunday, June 6, as the Baysox take on the Erie SeaWolves at 2:05 p.m. The organization collects the equipment for its Cardboard To Leather program, which provides equipment to underprivileged children in developing countries.
Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross has personally donated equipment to the program. "The Baysox love working with the Orioles Advocates on the Cardboard To Leather program," Shallcross said. "Last year our front office, our players and our fans all helped make the collection a big success, we hope our fans show their support again this year with another huge number of donations."
Last year, the Orioles Advocates collected more than 100,000 items that were distributed to more than 2,800 kids. This year, the organization hopes to increase the amount of equipment collected. The equipment is being sent to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
The Cardboard To Leather program accepts donations of all baseball and softball equipment: bats, balls, gloves, uniforms, bags and spikes. Baseball gloves, duffle bags and useable helmets are the hardest things for Cardboard to Leather to acquire.
If fans are unable to make it to the game, they can bring donations in to the Baysox office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
