Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have traded defenseman Derick Martin to the Elmira Jackals in exchange for winger Jarrett Konkle (kneeling). In a separate transaction, the club has acquired the ECHL rights to goaltender Josh Johnson from the Reading Royals in exchange for cash considerations.

The 27-year-oldKonkle scored 30 goals last season (including one in the AHL for Binghamton), beginning the year in Fresno and finishing the season in Johnstown after the Falcons ceased operations just before Christmas. In 47 games this year for the Chiefs and the Jackals, he scored 12 goals and assisted on 17 others. Konkle also spent his rookie year in Elmira when the Jackals were members of the United Hockey League, scoring 37 goals in 2005-06 after four years at NCAA Division III Elmira College.

Johnson, who turned 26 in January and is currently on an AHL call-up to Manchester, won 23 games for South Carolina during the 2007-08 season and went 14-12-1 last year while splitting the season between the Stingrays and the Gwinnett Gladiators. This season, playing behind a series of NHL-contracted goalies, he went 5-3 in nine appearances with Reading, Gwinnett, and Bakersfield. Johnson played four years of NCAA Division I hockey in his home state at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, going 22-20-4 with the Bulldogs, posting a save percentage of.900 or better and a goals against average of less than 3.00 in three of those seasons.

The Aces continue their three-game series against Ontario tonight and tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with live Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage getting underway 15 minutes prior to face-off. The first 2,500 fans arriving at Saturday's game will receive a Home Depot Mystery Gift Card.
