Zakrzewski Selected To Broadcast 2010 ECHL All-Star Game

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that Broadcaster and Media Specialist Joseph Zakrzewski has been selected to broadcast the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario, CA alongside Mike Benton of the Stockton Thunder and Mike Modugno of the Kalamazoo Wings. He is the seventh member of the Stingrays to be selected to the All-Star Game joining Head Coach Cail MacLean, Equipment Manager John Williams, forward Nikita Kashirsky, defenseman Zach Tarkir and goaltenders Todd Ford and Braden Holtby.
Zakrzewski is in his first season as the "Voice of the Stingrays" on B2 Networks, the "Official Broadband Broadcast Provider of the ECHL," and online at StingraysHockey.com. Zakrzewski is also the team's media specialist and is responsible for all media relations as well as managing StingraysHockey.com, the official web site of the Kelly Cup champions.
The Spring, TX native has worked the last two seasons as the broadcasting intern for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and as the broadcaster for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League. Zakrzewski was awarded his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications specializing in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in English from Sam Houston State University. During his time at Sam Houston State, Zakrzewski played hockey as the team's goaltender for four seasons and also worked for the school's radio and television stations.
The Stingrays welcome the Kalamazoo Wings to North Charleston Coliseum for the first time ever on Friday, January 15 at 7:05 p.m. Friday is $2 Beer Night at the Coliseum, but be sure to arrive early because the beer special only lasts until the end of the first period. About the 2010 All-Star Game: The 2010 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Reebok Hockey and brought to you by Toyota and the City of Ontario will be hosted by the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena and played on Jan. 20, 2010 while the 2010 ECHL All-Star Skills Competition will be held on Jan. 19, 2010.
There are 11 rookies on the American Conference and 19 of the 21 players are making their first appearance in an ECHL All-Star Game.
There have been 58 players from the All-Star Game who have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, including 33 since 2002 when the lineups began having players who coaches felt were prospects to move up to a higher level.
The starting lineups are determined in voting by American Conference coaches, team captains, media directors, broadcasters and media members. Coaches also submitted the top prospects from within their conference to determine the final roster with each of the 12 teams having a representative.
The third class will be inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame on Jan. 20, 2010 during a luncheon ceremony at the Hilton Ontario Airport, the official host hotel of the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game presented by Reebok Hockey and brought to you by Toyota and the City of Ontario. The featured speaker at the ECHL Hall of Fame luncheon will be Hockey Hall of Fame member and Los Angeles Kings President of Business Operations Luc Robitaille.
