Manaurys Correa (3-4) twirled a five hit, 5-0 shutout of the Quad Cities River Bandits as the Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a two game skid and reduced their playoff ‘Magic Number' to eight.

Correra walked one and struck out one over nine scoreless innings and picked up run support in the form of a solo HR by Roberto Lopez, an RBI double by Tyson Auer and a three run double by Angel Castillo. John Townsend went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Beau Brooks scored a run and drew two walks.

River Bandit starter Kevin Thomas (2-3) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three over five innings. Robert Espinoza went 2 for 3 with two of Quad Cities' five hits.

The win moves the Kernels one game closer to Kane County as the Cougars lost at Wisconsin, 3-1. At the time of this release, third place Clinton was leading Peoria, 3-2 in the top of the 8th inning.

The Kernels open the biggest home stand on Sunday evening at 5:05 pm as they host Kane County for a four game series, followed by four games against Clinton to end the first half of the MWL season. Tickets for the eight games can be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560 after 11 am on Sunday.

The upcoming home stand continues through Sunday, June 21st.
