August 28, 2008 - Southern League (SL1)
Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Trailing 2-1 after seven innings, the Jacksonville Suns (65-71, 32-34) scored six runs in the eighth inning and three in the ninth, including a home run and six RBI from 20-year-old outfielder Andrew Lambo, for a 10-3 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (68-67, 34-31) in front of 3,311 Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The win extended Jacksonville's season-best win streak to seven games. Jacksonville is 6-0 at Riverwalk Stadium during 2008. Ivan DeJesus, Jr. extended his Southern League-best hit streak to 21 games with a fourth inning bunt single.
With a one-run deficit entering the eighth, Jacksonville loaded the bases in the eighth inning on three singles against Montgomery reliever Ryan Reid. Biscuits third baseman Pat Cottrell then misplayed a ground ball, allowing two runs to score for a 3-2 Suns victory. Following another single to load the bases, Andrew Lambo belted a double to left-centerfield to clear the bases for a 6-2 lead. Later in the inning, with two out, Kelley Gulledge doubled in Lambo for a 7-2 advantage.
Facing reliever Brian Henderson in the ninth inning and with two runners on and two out, Andrew Lambo belted a home run to right field for a 10-2 Suns lead. All five Lambo hits in Double-A have driven home at least one run.
Montgomery scored an unearned run in the ninth to finish the scoring at 10-3.
The Biscuits took an early lead against Suns starter Josh Lindblom, making his Double-A debut. The 2008 second round draft pick out of Purdue gave up a third inning run on a Rashad Eldridge double for a 1-0 Montgomery lead. A two out triple from Eldridge in the fifth inning and a wild pitch opened a 2-0 Biscuits lead.
Lindblom allowed two runs, five hits and one walk with four strikeouts over five innings.
Jacksonville's first run came on an Ivan DeJesus, Jr. sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
Suns reliever Jacobo Meque (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings while Biscuits reliever Ryan Reid (5-4) allowed five runs, four earned, over one inning-plus.
The Suns are expected to activate right-hander Jesus Castillo for the start Friday at 8:05 p.m. ET against Biscuits right-hander Heath Rollins. Live radio coverage is available on WFXJ-AM 930 The Fox and online at jaxsuns.com.
