Zebulon, NC- The Tennessee Smokies (33-32) fell one run short to the Carolina Mudcats (39-26) 5-4, at Five County Stadium Thursday night in front of 3,956.
Tennessee scored first with a run in the top of the second inning. Matt Matulia drove home Jake Fox with Kyle Reynolds cut down trying to score behind him.
Carolina came right back with a three-run second inning to take a 3-1 advantage. Chris De La Cruz highlighted the inning with a bases loaded double.
Cameron Maybin added a two-run single in the fourth inning. The hit extended Carolina's lead to four runs at 5-1.
Tennessee made it close by adding at two spot in the eighth. Doug Deeds crushed a two-run homerun for a 5-4 game but that was as close as it would get.
