Jarrod Parker to pitch in Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne, IN - Jarrod Parker, the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, will take the mound as the starting pitcher for the South Bend Silver Hawks on Thursday in the Fort Wayne Wizards regular season finale at Memorial Stadium.

Parker is in his first full professional season of baseball with the Silver Hawks. He is currently 11-5 on the season with a 3.59 earned run average over the span of 23 starts. In 112.2 innings, the former Norwell High School star has allowed 112 hits, walked 33 and struck out 110.

Parker helped the Knights to a perfect 35-0 season his senior year in 2007, winning the Class 3A state baseball title, being named Indiana's Mr. Baseball and being named a member of the Indiana North All-Star team during the Indiana North-South Al-Star game.

Parker finished his high school career with a 20-1 record, three saves and a 0.91 ERA. He allowed a mere 59 hits, walked 17 and struck out 209. He was the 2007 Louisville Slugger Indiana State High School Player of the Year and the Gatorade Player of the Year.

Right-hander Wynn Pelzer is expected to start for the Wizards. Pelzer is 9-5 on the season with a staff-best 2.84 ERA among all starting pitchers. In 28 games, including 22 starts, the University of South Carolina product has allowed 107 hits, walked 28 and struck out 97 in 114 innings.
