SIOUX CITY, IA - Rain ended any chance for a comeback as the Explorers lost 1-0 to Shreveport in a 6 inning game at Lewis & Clark Park on Wednesday night.

The Sports scored 1 run in the top of the first inning off X's starter Dusty Bergman and it turned out that would be the difference. Ron Fenwick got a 2 out double down the left field line. Chad Gambill would hit a bouncer to short that Sam Walker threw away to first that scored Fenwick.

That's all that Bergman allowed, going 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 7 hits while walking 4 and striking out 7. Bergman allowed at least 1 hit in every inning but the Sports stranded 8 men on base. For the Explorers, it was the first complete game of the season.

The Explorers had their chances against Shreveport's Justin Phillips. The X's got leadoff singles in the first and second but got back-to-back leadoff singles from Chris Grossman and Juan Camacho in the 4th. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Anton French popped out to second, Chad Gabriel struck out looking and Alex Llanos bounced out to the mound to retire the side. The X's were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded 5 men on base.

Phillips got the complete game win, his first of the year and Bergman took his 6th loss in 6 starts. The X's will turn to Nick Singleton in the rubber match on Thursday night while the Sports will counter with Daniel Welch. Game time is 7:05, tickets are available by calling 277-WINS.
