El Paso cruises to easy win

David Whigham threw six and a third quality innings as the El Paso Diablos cruised to a 13-2 victory over the Grand Prairie Air Hogs on Wednesday night.

El Paso scored first in the contest in the top of the third inning. Stantrel Smith reached second base on a hot shot grounder down the third base line, a two-base error on Edwin Maldanado. Bryan Cooksey plated Smith on a single, and Cooksey would score on a wild pitch, for the 2-0 advantage.

The Diablos exploded for eight runs in the top of the fourth inning. El Paso hit around in the frame without even being retired. All together, the Diablos plated eight runners on four hits with two walks and two errors. El Paso took a 10-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Airhogs broke the shut-out bid in the bottom of the seventh inning. David Espinosa scored on a fielders choice and Drew Holder scored on an RBI single making it an 11-2 contest.

Stantrel Smith hammered a two-run homer to left field in the top of the ninth inning, his first of the season, for the 13-2 lead and the games final runs

David Whigham (3-2) is the winner, he threw six and a third innings allowing only one earned run off of five hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Zac Stott (2-2) takes the loss, he lasted just three innings allowing four runs, one earned, off of two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Isaac Daniels, Donovan Hendricks, B.J Litchfield, ad Jason Vecchio combined to throw the final two and two third innings scoreless.

The Diablos will close out their three game series with the Grand Prairie Air Hogs on Thursday night at 6:05 PM MST. Josh Neitz gets the start against Nat Harris. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 AM as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
