Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs opened the home portion of the 2008 season in style, knocking off the Pensacola Pelicans 8-2 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln's offensive outburst supported a great outing by starter Ryan Trytten (1-0), who tossed six scoreless innings to earn his first win of the year.

The Saltdogs took the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning, on Dustin Yount's solo home run. The long bomb increased Yount's league-leading RBI total to 12. The Dogs took control of the game with a three-run second inning, highlighted by Ben Tinius' RBI single, then blew it wide open with four runs in the fifth. Lincoln opened that inning with four straight singles, including Shawn McGill's RBI base hit.

The game, though, belonged to Trytten, who was in control from the start. He erased a leadoff walk in the first inning by catching a line drive and doubling the runner off of first, then settled in and walked only one more batter the rest of the way. Pelican shortstop Scott Pittenger recorded two hits off of Trytten, but the rest of the Pensacola lineup went a combined 0-for-17 against the Saltdogs starter. Overall, Trytten struck out four and walked two, recording the best outing of the season so far by a Lincoln starter.

McGill and Luis Perez each had two hits for the Saltdogs, while Yount and Eduardo Rios both extended their hitting streaks to eight games. Anthony Contreras had two RBI for Lincoln, but failed to record a hit, the first time that's happened all season. Jonny Kaplan's single in the fifth inning extended his hitting streak to seven games.

For Pensacola, Clegg Snipes (0-1) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in four innings of work. The Pelicans scored their only two runs of the game in the eighth inning, on RBI singles by Rafael Alvarez and Cesar Aranguren. Lincoln improves to 3-5 on the season, while Pensacola falls to 4-3.

The two teams play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05, at Haymarket Park. Zach Cline gets the start for the Saltdogs, while Pensacola will send Joe Orgovan to the mound,

The Saltdogs' first homestand of the season runs now through May 25th, with games against Pensacola, Sioux Falls and Wichita. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
