Former Pels Closer Continues Major League Success

Edwar Ramirez, the Pensacola Pelicans former closer, has been quite successful this season with the Yankees. Since returning to the New York Yankees this season, Ramirez has been a vital part of their pitching staff.

So far this season, Ramirez has made the trip out of the Yankee bullpen seven times and has pitched seven and two thirds scoreless innings of relief. He is 1-0 with 0.00 ERA and has recorded nine strikeouts and only allowed three hits in those seven and two thirds innings. In his last four outings, Ramirez has not allowed a hit.

"We are excited to follow his success this season in the Major Leagues," said Pelicans General Manager Talmadge Nunnari. "He is a talented young ball player with a lot of potential and great opportunities in front of him."

This is Ramirez's second stint in the Major Leagues. He finished last season with the Yankees going 1-1 in twenty one innings pitched with an 8.14 ERA. As the Pelicans closer in 2005, Ramirez posted a 1.45 ERA and recorded eleven saves while holding opponents to a .170 batting average.

The Pelicans return home this Monday, May 19th to begin a seven game home stand. Promotions include Mutt Monday, Navy League Night, Autism Awareness Night, Camo Visor and T-shirt giveaway and a post-game fireworks display on Sunday, May 25.
