Saints Off To Red-Hot Start
Published on May 16, 2008 under American Association (AA)
St. Paul Saints News Release
The Saints are off to a 7-0 start to the 2008 season. The ballclub openend the campaign by sweeping a four-game series at home vs. Grand Prairie, and last night completed a three-game sweep on the road in Sioux City, IA.
It's been an exciting start to the year, with the Siants winning three games in their final at bat, including two extra-inning wins. The offense seems to find a new star each night whether it's a walk off hit from Marcel Longmire or Brent Krause or a three-hit game from Pichi Balet.
As for the pitching staff there aren't enough superlatives to describe them. The starting staff has seen Luis Villarreal and Justin Lord look very impressive and Charlie Ruud has yet to make his first start of the season (he did pitch two scoreless innings out of the bullpen on May 11, getting the win in a 12 inning Saints victory). The bullpen has been nothing short of amazing. It's a long season, but the Saints are off to a hot start.
