Jones Promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket, Vasquez Received from Single-A Lancaster

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' right-handed pitcher Hunter Jones has been transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket. Left-handed pitcher Carlos Vasquez joins the Sea Dogs from Single-A Lancaster. The Sea Dogs continue their road trip tonight with a 7:05 PM game against the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park in Trenton, New Jersey.

The 24 year-old Jones has appeared in 13 games for the Sea Dogs this season posting an 0-1 record with 4 saves and a 1.19 ERA. He has recorded 26 strikeouts in 22.2 innings pitched and allowed four walks. Last season, he split time with Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland going a combined 6-2 with 2 saves and a 2.62 ERA. The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida native was signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on July 23, 2005.

Vasquez, 25 years-old, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a minor league free agent in March 2008. He has appeared in eight games for the Single-A Lancaster JetHawks this season going 2-0 with a 3.12 ERA. He has fanned 18 batters in 17.1 innings pitched while walking 3. Vasquez spent the 2007 season with the Chicago White Sox organization, where he split time between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte going a combined 4-3 with 4 saves and 2.72 ERA. The Venezuelan native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the White Sox on February 21, 2000.
