Aerodynamics...
- It's A Beautiful Day...After gorgeous weather the first three days in Bowie, the Aeros and Baysox got yesterday's finale started but heavy rain in the top of the third inning forced the suspension of the contest. Akron led 5-1 at the time, with a runner at first and one away and the count 1-0 on LF Nathan Panther. The game will be resumed Friday, May 2nd at 6:05 and will be played to its full, nine-inning conclusion. That night's regularly-scheduled game will then be played as a seven-inning contest.
- Too Little, Too Late...The Aeros made things interesting in the late innings once again Saturday night, but their eighth-inning rally fell short as Bowie held on for a 5-3 victory. Akron managed next to nothing against Baysox southpaw Chris Waters, who handcuffed the offense to just a run on four hits in seven innings (incredibly, Waters actually saw his ERA go up to 0.87). The bats awoke in the top of the eighth however, as 2B Brandon Pinckney socked a solo home run to left center and SS Josh Rodriguez added an RBI double two batters later to bring Akron to within a run. The next two hitters also reached to load the bases, but Bowie reliever Gerardo Casadiego struck out both 1B Matt Whitney and RF Ryan Goleski on a series of off-speed pitches to get out of the inning.
- Worth the Wait...After failing to land with a full-season club out of spring training, Aeros 2B Brandon Pinckney finally got his opportunity to join Akron when outfielder Stephen Head went down with a broken bone in his right wrist. Pinckney did not appear in the first two games in Bowie, but collected a homer and a double in four trips in his season debut Saturday. The native of Elk Grove, CA hit .270 with three home runs and 36 RBI in 79 games with Akron last season. SS Josh Rodriguez also had a big night at the plate Saturday, going 3-4 with two RBI while finishing just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. It was Rodriguez's second three-hit game of the year, tying an Aeros season-high.
- They Call Him the Streak...DH Michael Aubrey continues to swing the bat well, going 1-3 with a walk Saturday to extend his most recent hitting streak to five games. Aubrey opened the year by hitting in his first nine games before an 0-4 performance last Monday prevented him from taking it to double digits. The former first-round selection from Tulane University hit .282 (11-39) over his nine-game hitting streak, but is hitting .350 (7-20) over this current five-game run.
- Did You Know...The Aeros have not been at the .500 mark yet this season. Akron has been one game under .500 on six separate occasions, but has lost the ensuing game each time.
