Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Snappers' offense was unable to overcome 16 strikeouts as Beloit dropped the first game of the season to the Kane County Cougars, 10-5. Beloit's David Bromberg picked up the loss, going 4.2 innings and allowing five runs. The right hander from Los Angeles only allowed three hits and also struck out four Cougars in his first game with the Twins single A affiliate.

The Cougars got on the board first in the top of the second inning with three runs. Right Fielder Todd Johnson delivered a three-run homer off of Bromberg to give Kane County the early 3-0 lead.

The Snappers bounced back in the bottom of the third inning with two runs of their own. Catcher Greg Yersich led the inning off with a single to center and was later driven home off the bat of Joe Benson. The Minooka, Illinois native drove Yersich home with a double to left. One batter later, Deibinson Romero drove Benson home with a double of his own. The double pulled Beloit to within one run, 3-2.

The 2007 Midwest League Western Division Champion Beloit Snappers tied the game up at three in the bottom of the fourth inning off the bat of newcomer Ozzie Lewis. Lewis led off the inning with a home run to deep center. Lewis' homer, however, would be as close as the Snappers would get.

Kane County went on to pour on the runs, as they scored two in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in seventh. The Cougars ending up claiming game one of the four-game series by a score of 10-5.

Beloit reliever Dominique Rodgers had an impressive showing, pitching two perfect innings and striking out three Cougars.

Upcoming Schedule: Beloit and Kane County continue their four-game series tomorrow at Pohlman Field with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00pm. Beloit will throw Michael McCardell (game one) and Michael Tarsi (game two) while Kane County will have Travis Banwart (game one) and Jamie Richmond (game two) on the mound. Gates open up at 1:00pm.
