Amerks To Spend Weekend On The Road
November 26, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... This week, the Rochester Americans will spend their second weekend away from The Blue Cross Arena this season as the team is scheduled to play in back-to-back contests on the road.
The road weekend kicks off on Friday, November 30th as Rochester will head north to the Verizon Wireless Arena to take on the Manchester Monarchs in the first of two meetings between the non-division foes this season. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. Rochester holds a 2-0-0 all-time record against the Los Angeles Kings' affiliate.
The following night, Rochester will begin its December schedule as it travels east to face Rochester native Chris Collins and the rest of the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The 7:05 p.m. matchup will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The game will be the second and final meeting between the squads this year. In their previous meeting, the Boston Bruins' affiliate skated past the Amerks to a 4-3 victory on October 13th at The Blue Cross Arena. Rochester is 11-13-1 all-time against Providence.
Rochester (9-10-1-2, 21 points) enters the week in third place in the American Hockey League's North Division standings, five points behind the Manitoba Moose and seven points behind the division-leading Toronto Marlies.
Despite suffering defeat in the first two contests, the Amerks salvaged the three-game week with a win over the Lake Erie Monsters, one of the AHL's newest franchises and affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
Rochester dropped a 5-3 decision to the Manitoba Moose in a pre-Thanksgiving contest Wednesday night at The Blue Cross Arena. Stefan Meyer, Rob Globke and Anthony Stewart each found the back of the net for the Amerks. With the loss, Rochester fell to 0-4-0 on the season and 14-17-1 all-time against the Moose.
The next night in Binghamton, the Amerks fell to the Senators, 4-1, at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The special Thanksgiving Day matchup was the only game on the AHL schedule that day. Rookie left wing Dan Collins scored the lone goal for the visiting Amerks, while Globke and Stewart each assisted on the tally.
Rochester ended its three-game week and two-game skid with a 3-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The game was the first ever between the two teams. First-year defenseman Peter Aston notched his first professional goal and added an assist for the Amerks. His tally also proved to be the game-winner. Stewart chipped in with two points (1+1) and Dylan Hunter rounded out the scoring for the Amerks. Aston, Stewart and Hunter each earned first, second and third star honors, respectively, for their performances.
Stewart has proven to be the most productive as of late for Rochester, registering three goals and four assists in his last four outings. The LaSalle, Quebec, native is currently third among active Amerks with 15 points (7+8). Third-year forward Mark Mancari leads the current roster with 17 points (2+15) in 22 games. Adam Dennis is sixth among all AHL netminders with eight wins. Dennis has posted a 3.11 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage through 14 games between the posts for Rochester.
The Amerks return home on Friday, December 7th as they play host to the Toronto Marlies for a 7:35 p.m. North Division showdown. The game will be the first visit from the Marlies to the Flower City and the second of eight scheduled games between the two teams this season.
