LANSING- For the first time this season, the Lansing Lugnuts scored double-digit runs as they won a 12-7 comeback victory over the South Bend SilverHawks before 2,623 fans at Oldsmobile Park Monday night. The win snaps a three game losing skid for Lansing.
With the score tied 7-7 in the eighth, Lansing's Jonathan Jaspe singled to center field to bring home Jonathan Diaz from second base to give the Lugnuts an 8-7 lead. Lansing then poured it on as they sent nine batters to the dish in the inning and scored five runs. Sean Shoffit followed Jaspe with a two-run double to make it 10-7. Chris Gutierrez and Matt Lane each added RBI base hits of their own to extend the advantage to 12-7.
Lansing trailed the SilverHawks 7-3 in the sixth, but Josh Bell's two-run homer to center field cut the South Bend lead to 7-5.
The Lugnuts tied the game in the following frame by plating two runs, one on a Travis Snider RBI single and the other on a Matt Lane sacrifice fly.
The Silverhawks took the lead in the second inning by scoring three runs in the frame, highlighted by a Brad Miller solo homer.
Lansing knotted the game at 3-3 in the third, when Gutierrez smacked a two-run double and Snider ripped an RBI single to plate Gutierrez.
