Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - The American Hockey League's Portland Pirates assigned defenseman Sean Blanchard to the Augusta Lynx on Monday prior to the team's road contest against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Augusta also activated forward Garrett Bembridge off the injured reserve list and placed forward Louis Goulet on the 3-Day IR.

Blanchard, 28, has spent the past five seasons playing overseas in Europe, most recently with Zurich in the Swiss Elite League last year. The 5-11, 198 lb. blueliner was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, and began his pro career splitting time between the AHL, ECHL, and now-defunct International Hockey League. In 51 games with Bob Ferguson's Florida Everblades during the 2000-01 season, Blanchard notched five goals and 30 points on the campaign. The Sudbury, Ontario native's best season came in 2003-04 with Ritten Renon of the Italian League where he posted 16 goals and 50 points in 42 games.

Goulet heads onto the IR having posted a goal and three assists in five games this year, and Bembridge will skate tonight after seeing action in the first two games, recording no points and six minutes in penalties.

The Lynx take on the Gladiators tonight at 7:35 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show beginning one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
