CINCINNATI, OH - The Florida Everblades (5-3-0) used a pair of second period power play goals and 27 saves by goaltender Craig Kowalski to earn a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-4-0) on Monday night at U.S. Bank Arena in front of a crowd of 576.
After a scoreless first period of play that saw the Everblades out-shoot the Cyclones 16-8 with the help of five power play chances, the Everblades cracked through with a pair of power play goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Brent McDonald opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 5:31 by slipping a rebound past Cincinnati net-minder Cedrick Desjardins. Derek Damon and David Brine assisted on the goal.
After the Cyclones tied the game at one on an even strength goal by Cory Urquhart at 12:04 of the second period Damon notched the eventual game-winner with his second goal of the year banging a one-timer past Desjardins with just 42 seconds remaining in the frame. McDonald and Jonathan Lehun picked up the helpers.
