Everblades end road trip with 2-1 win over Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH - The Florida Everblades (5-3-0) used a pair of second period power play goals and 27 saves by goaltender Craig Kowalski to earn a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones (4-4-0) on Monday night at U.S. Bank Arena in front of a crowd of 576.

After a scoreless first period of play that saw the Everblades out-shoot the Cyclones 16-8 with the help of five power play chances, the Everblades cracked through with a pair of power play goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Brent McDonald opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season at 5:31 by slipping a rebound past Cincinnati net-minder Cedrick Desjardins. Derek Damon and David Brine assisted on the goal.

After the Cyclones tied the game at one on an even strength goal by Cory Urquhart at 12:04 of the second period Damon notched the eventual game-winner with his second goal of the year banging a one-timer past Desjardins with just 42 seconds remaining in the frame. McDonald and Jonathan Lehun picked up the helpers.

Kowalski won his second straight game by stopping 27 of 28 Cincinnati shots, raising his record to 2-2-0. Desjardins suffered his first home loss of the season by allowing the two goals on 36 Florida shots, dropping his record to 2-2-0.

On the power play, the Everblades closed out night 2-for-10, while the Cyclones finished the night 0-for-7.
