Jackson Moves to AAA, Purcey joins Fishers

Manchester, NH- LHP Zach Jackson was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse today and RHP Casey Janssen was activated from the disabled list to take his roster spot. Also, 3B Rob Cosby was placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 22 and LHP David Purcey was added to New Hampshire's roster from Single-A Dunedin.

The 22-year-old Jackson was 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 9 starts with New Hampshire this season. He struck out 43 and walked 12 in 54 innings pitched. He was 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA over his last 2 starts, including a season high 8 innings pitched in his last outing vs. Akron on July 19. Jackson started the 2005 season with the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, where he went 8-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 10 starts. He had a 48/6 K/BB ratio in 59.1 innings pitched. He was selected by Toronto in the 1st round (32nd overall) of the 2004 draft.

The 23-year-old Janssen has been on the DL since July 17 after he was hit by a line drive in his start on July 16. Janssen made his Double-A debut with New Hampshire on July 10, earning the win after going 7 innings and allowing just 2 hits and 0 runs. He walked none and struck out 8 batters in the outing. He made his second start on July 16 in New Britain, but lasted just 1.1 innings after getting hit with the line drive. Janssen began the 2005 season with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League, where he was 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in 7 starts. He then moved to Dunedin where he went 6-1 with a 2.26 ERA in 10 starts. Combined this season he is 11-1 with a 1.74 ERA. He is scheduled to start tonight in Norwich against the Navigators, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, at 7:05 PM. He was drafted by Toronto in the 4th round of the 2004 draft.

The 24-year-old Cosby is hitting .310 with 12 HR and 44 RBI in 81 games with New Hampshire. He has missed the last 6 games with an injury to his side. He has been New Hampshire's best hitter lately, hitting .404 with 6 HR and 17 RBI in 15 games in July. He has twice been named the Eastern League's Player of the Week (June 12 and July 11). Cosby was originally selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 1999 draft.

The 23-year-old Purcey was Toronto's 1st pick (16th overall) in last year's draft. He was 5-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 21 starts with Dunedin this season. He struck out 116 batters and walked 56 in 94.1 innings pitched. He held Florida State League opponents to a .229 batting average. He is tentatively scheduled to start and make his Double-A debut on Thursday morning against Norwich in the finale of their 4 game series.
