July 26, 2005 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets scored four times in the ninth to force extra innings, but Jose Bautista's 12th-inning home run gave the Altoona Curve a 5-4 victory in the series opener at Blair County Ballpark Monday. The B-Mets have lost 16 of their last 22.

Altoona (51-49) got to B-Mets starter Bryan Edwards for single runs in three straight innings. After Edwards walked the first two hitters of the second, Javier Guzman singled to right, scoring Adam Boeve for the game's first run. Craig Stansberry led off the third with a base hit and stole second ahead of Josh Bonifay's RBI single for a 2-0 Altoona lead. Paul Chiaffredo made it 3-0 Curve with an RBI double in the fourth, bringing home Howie Clark, who led off the inning with a single. The Curve got a fourth run off reliever Matt Lindstrom in the eighth when Guzman reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and came home on Chiaffredo's second run-scoring hit of the game.

However, the B-Mets (44-53) were able to rally against Altoona reliever Justin Kaye in the ninth. Wayne Lydon led off the frame with a triple to right-center and scored on a base hit up the middle by Aarom Baldiris for Binghamton's first run. Mike Jacobs followed with a walk bringing up Brett Harper, who flied out to deep right, allowing Baldiris to take third. Up came David Bacani, who doubled to left, scoring Baldiris and pulling Binghamton within two. After Corey Ragsdale scored Jacobs on a groundout off Brady Borner, Bobby Malek laced a double to right, plating Bacani and tying the game.

The game stayed tied until the 12th, when Bautista hit Jeremy Hill's (0-1) second pitch of the game over the leftfield wall. Shane Youman (4-6) pitched the final two innings for Altoona, earning the victory.

Tuesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game series at Altoona. Ken Chenard (7-7, 4.86) is slated to start for the B-Mets against Altoona's Eddie Candelario (2-2, 3.77). Game time at Blair County Ballpark is 7:05, with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the radio broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
