Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Altoona Curve got a two-run homer from Josh Bonifay as part of a three-run first inning, propelling them to a 4-1 victory over the Binghamton Mets Tuesday at Blair County Ballpark. The B-Mets have lost the first two games of the four-game series and 16 of their last 22.
After Rich Thompson led off the first with a flyout, Altoona's (52-49) Craig Stansberry tripled off Ken Chenard (7-8) and came home on a Jose Bautista single for a 1-0 lead. Bonifay followed with his two-run blast to left-center for the three-run advantage.
The B-Mets (44-54) didn't crack the scoring column until the sixth. Wayne Lydon drew a one-out walk off Eddie Candelario and was bunted to second by Aarom Baldiris. Mike Jacobs then ripped a Candelario (3-2) offering into centerfield for a double, scoring Lydon and cutting Altoona's lead to 3-1.
The Curve got an insurance run in the eighth when Carlos Maldonado homered off B-Mets reliever Luz Portobanco. Ben Shaffar pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for Altoona, picking up his fifth save. Wednesday, the B-Mets play the third game of their four-game series at Altoona. Yusmeiro Petit (5-2, 2.83) is slated to start for the B-Mets against Altoona's Matt
